BIRD - ROWE / ROE

Geoffrey Pope Thu Apr 19 20:06:26 2007
Hope to confirm/refute theory that Nancy BIRD is a daughter of Allen BIRD and Jean BIRD, Allen a son of Peter BIRD, Sr.

Nancy BIRD was born about 1805 and died, probably in Decatur Co., GA in or about 1861. She married in Hancock Co., GA in 1824 Stephen Hiram ROE / ROWE whose dates if memory serves are 1802-1888. Couple are in Hancock Co. in 1830 census with 3 children (who soon vanish). Apparently they lived in Arkansas in the early 1840s.

1850 Census has them with 6 sons and a dtr, born between 1835 and 1848, in Gadsden Co., FL (panhandle). In 1860, they are in adjoining Jackson Co., FL where several dtrs were married.

Son John Henry ROWE 1846-1922 was Confederate soldier from AL and later a "Confederado" exile in Brazil. Nancy BIRD's dtr Mary E. ROWE b. 1841 married William Samuel POPE 1824-1902 in Jackson Co., FL abt. 1861. These are my great-grandparents.

Any info re parentage of Nancy BIRD, who married in Hancock Co. in 1824, will be appreciated.

SCURLOCK

Helen Tue Dec 11 01:54:43 2007
Joshua (John?) SCURLOCK moved from Halifax Co, VA with his family and wife and was in GA by 1788 as he sold his last land in VA. His will was written September 14, 1794 and probated 8/13/1795 in Hancock Co, GA. I am interested in that will and any knowledge about his children..William, Joshua, James and Sarah SCURLOCK (b about 1763-1773 time frame). Joshua and his second wife Elizabeth "Bettie" died in GA. He sometime between 1790-9/14/1794. She probably in the year 1790.

We believe his son William went to Baldwin Co, GA and died there 10/12/1840. William's wife probably died about 6/3/1831 but I don't know where. They were married about 1796 not sure where and had 8 children some staying in GA and some moving to MS.

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide background on the SCURLOCK's in VA in exchange for information about GA. Or can do research in TN for someone in exchange for someone doing GA lookups and so forth.

These are Revolutionary families.
Hope to hear from someone.

Jefferson C. MITCHELL and his mother, Jane, migrated to Alabama and then to north Florida by 1860. He married Tabitha Matilda (maiden name unknown). Would love to hear from anyone who has any information about this family?
