I am trying to find out the parents of John, Sr. The family is found in the 1900, 1910, & 1920 census. However, I am not able to find in Lakes in the county prior to the 1900 census. QRYTEXT: My great great grand father, Handy HAMMETT,was born in Georgia around 1855. He was reported mulatto and his mother was white. He married Carrie Hammett in Troup County in 1873. This union a number of children were born: Jimmell, Lula, John, & others. In the 1880 census, he is found married to his wife with children. However, in the 1870 census he is found listed as Handy JORDAN. The head of the house hold was Long Jordan. I am tryping to find out where did the name Jordan come from in connection with the family. Also, recently I found out that Dr. John Jordan (a black doctor who practiced in Hogansville around the turn of the century) was his cousion or nephew.
