Some had horns, some coffee-pots and spoons; And some enormous hats, with tin for ostrich plumes. Others, plates, graters, rattle-boxes made of tin, Which, with the female voices, created quite a din. The Billy, with face all aglow, and horn in hand, Close followed by this noisy, clamorous band, Straightway proceeded up to SANDERS' room, And quite surprised the bride and groom. At first they thought to make their flight, Like folks are wont in sore affright; But by the hosts were soon o'ertaken; "We come," they say, "to your tin collection!" The seats were offered, nuts, wine and cake, Until two hours were told ayont the eight, Then to the parlor they did betake, The "light fantastic toe" to shake. But J*****, the grave and blest, Was, of all the dancers, far the best. He heeled and toed, from tip to hollow, Then gave the challenge for one to follow. But Abb, somehow, was very silent, His legs, though long, weere not so plient; But John, he thought, would do quite well, If not, why the, Sir R. E. H--l. "Forward four!" the jig, and palin quadrille, While each took part with right good will, Until the fun was had that all intended, When, by one consent, the wedding ended. The dance was closed - glad thought and wishes blended, That each might live to have a wedding thus attended, And many children 'round them gather, When hence they go to their Heavenly Father.
