Harford Mills.
Our prediction that Mr. Frank FLETCHER and Miss Ida SCOTT were drifting towards matrimony proved true. They were married in the early part of last week. Elder HOWARD tied the knot. We think they have obeyed the Bible injunction, "Be ye not unequally yoked together."
The long and tedious courtship of Mr. George ROOD and Miss Ida AYERS was consummated last week. We understand that Mr. ROOD just received a diploma from the Eclectic School of Physicians, and expects to commence practice at Trumansburg, Tompkins Co.

Marriage Bells.
At 3:30 P.M., on Wednesday, there was assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Miner MERRICK, of Blodgett's Mills, a gay company of friends and relatives, to witness the marriage of their daughter, Nellie M., to Mr. Fred C. ATWOOD, one of our promising young business men.
The day was all that could have been wished, no clouds to mar the beauty of the bright sky, the beauty of the day reflected an only overcome by the pleased and happy expression on the face of the bride, who was richly attired in dregs of wine silk profusely trimmed in white lace, her only ornaments being an elegant set of garnets, the gift of the groom. The ceremony was short but very impressive and was performed by the Rev. H. G.[?] SELL in his pleasant and agreeable manner.
When all was in readiness the bride and groom stood underneath an arch from the center of which hung suspended the "Marriage Bell" made of choice flowers. At the right was a pillow of flowers in the center of which was arranged letters that read MERRICK, and on the left a similar pillow reading ATWOOD. The parlor was very handsomely trimmed in evergreens and flowers, the most prominent feature being festoons of evergreens from each corner of the room to the centre, and there was suspended a handsome horse-shoe of flowers.
Immediately after the ceremony came congratulations, and if half the joys wished the happy pair are realized theirs will indeed be a joyous life. After congratulations came the bountiful repast, and the manner in which all participated in this very important part of the programme was a sufficient guarantee of the skill of the hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. ATWOOD came to Cortland and there boarded the 6:12 train, their destination being Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls, expecting to return in a week or ten days, and soon to occupy a handsome residence that is being built on Charles street by Mr. ATWOOD. May their journey through life be a long and happy one is the wish of their many friends.

	And let them go
To such sweet life and perfect love,
That hand in hand at length they'll stand
		In heaven above,
		And so may be
	One life through all eternity.
The presents were many and costly of which below is a partial list:
Set of garnets, Fred ATWOOD; cake basket, Mr. and Mrs. A. TISDALE and Mr. and Mrs. H. WELLS; damask table-cloth and napkins, Mr. and Mrs. COLE and Mrs. Andrew DAY; hand painted china tea set, Messrs. F. H. ATWOOD and wife and A. H. The Happy Thought Wedding.
This event took place at 3 P.M. on Thursday, Sept. 13, on a raised platform in the east end of Floral Hall on the Fair Ground. A very large crowd of people had assembled anxious to witness the ceremony. The parties soon put in an appearance and took their stand on the platform. Rev. J. L. ROBERTSON who officiated, Rev. J. A. ROBINSON and Messrs. NEWKIRK & HULBERT wee already on hand as was also Mr. John D. GREEN, Treasurer of the Pittston Stove Co., manufacturers of the Range, who came here especially to attend the wedding. Rev. ROBERTSON then tied the knot which joined the happy couple together during life. Over the platform was suspended a handsome yoke made of flowers which was contributed by A. FROST. After the ceremony the couple passed about the hall and were the observed of all observers. Many of the exhibitors gave them presents and we give a list of some of them: A handsome chair from Beard & Son, brooms from Squires & Co., pair of fine shoes from Jay & Smith, collars from Day and Atwood, majolica butter dish from Sherwood Bros., towels from Tanner Bros., package of groceries, etc. The most elegant present, however, was from Mr. GREEN, Treasurer of the Pittston Stove Co., consisting of a set of knives and forks and set of carvers. Great credit is due Messrs. NEWKIRK and HULBERT for their excellent management of the affair and the pains with which they took to have everything pass off in the best possible manner. We doubt if any couple in the county ever had a larger number of guests at their wedding ceremony. It was one of the great attractions of the Fair and was carried out in a becoming and sensible manner.

Virgil.
Married, at the residence of the bride's sister, Mrs. Charles HAWLEY, in Stepney, Conn., Sept. 18, by the Rev. Mr. SADLIR, Mr. Ralph BENEDICT, of Newtown, Conn., and Miss Christina CURTIS, of Virgil.
As the CURTIS girls are Virgil born, and have lived here until a few years, and have a large circle of friends, a description of their prospects will be of interest to the many readers of the Democrat in this town. In September last, ourself and wife had the pleasure of paying them a visit at their home. We found Mrs. HAWLEY living about ten miles from Bridgeport, at a place called Stepney, on the Housatonic railroad. Of their home, we can say it was a complete farmer's residence, lacking nothing which good taste would demand, and their hospitality, with that of their parents, we shall long remember. Meeting the bridegroom elect, we received an invitation to visit his home, and found him owning a beautiful house, surrounded by all kinds of fruit and ornamental trees, showing evidence of good taste and ample means. Being interested in our friend's success in life, we made some inquiries as to Mr. BENEDICT's standing, and found him enjoying the confidence of the community, and credited with the possession of a large amount of Bank and Railroad stock. We offer the happy pair our best wishes.

Mr. Ellsworth HOTCHKISS and his bride, Miss Jennie SESSIONS, of Harford, are receiving the congratulations of friends.

Wedding Bells.
One of the pleasant events, which it is always our pleasure to record, transpired at the residence of A. J. LYMAN, Esq., on So. Pendleton St., in this village, on Wednesday evening, of this week at 7 o'clock. The occasion being the marriage of his second daughter, Hattie N., to our popular young druggist Milford M. MAYBURY, junior partner of the firm of Brown & Maybury.
The large gathering of friends (about 100) attested the high esteem in which the contracting parties were held in this community, but this was still more substantially manifest in the large number of rich and elegant presents displayed. Space and time forbid an extended mention of the articles with the names of the donors, which we regret; but we must say that while all were rich, beautiful and useful, that from Mr. and Mrs. GAY, of Ithaca, a case of solid silver spoons, and that from "The Gang," an elegant parlor set, unholstered [sic] in silk and velvet, are deserving of special mention.
Immediately after the ceremony, and after hearty congratulations of the happy pair, a beautiful repast was served. Mr. and Mrs. MAYBURY took their departure on the 8:45 train for a short trip to New York, and their hosts of friends in Cortland will join with us in most hearty congratulations.
