HAIT - HOYT - HAIGHT

Michael Hait Wed Dec 7 10:10:41 2005
I have two queries related to this family.

First, I am researching the family of Henry HOYT who moved to Thompson, Sullivan Co., New York, from Stamford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut, sometime before 1830. He appears in the 1830 Census there. In 1840, he appears as "Henry HAIGHT". He then moved to Suffolk Co., New York, and appears in the 1850 Census and on his gravestone as "Henry HAIT". This name has passed down to those of his descendants who went to Suffolk Co. with him.

If anyone who reads this is descended from Henry, please email me. I am trying to follow all of his lines down to more recent times. I believe his son Aaron HAIGHT may have stayed in Sullivan Co. Aaron was born approximately 1802-03.

My second question is concerning the Thompsontown Baptist Church. I believe that Henry may have preached there. Does anyone have any information on this church, or know where its records might be found?

I look forward to hearing from anyone who might be able to help me,
Michael Hait

HOTIS / HODUS

I'm trying to find some info on a piece of land that was called the HOTIS Place or the HOTIS farm. It is on Thunder Hill road and the town line (Fallsburg, Neversink) goes through the property. I was recently told, by the person who now owns this property, a story about a supposed orphanage once being on the property which burnt down and another one story home was built on the same foundation. If you know of any info about this property, orphanage, HOTIS farm or previous owners, please contact me.

LLOYD

Can anyone suggest how I can learn more about this White Lake "summer resort" mentioned in the following obit? Or if there might be another obit in a local White Lake newspaper? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

OBIT: 1914 - Oliver LLOYD, 44 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward LLOYD of Oceanic, NJ., died Friday night at White Lake, NY where he ran a summer resort. A widow survives. (NY Times, 7 Jun 1914, Sect. IV, p. 5, Col. 6.) He may have died of TB according to Elizabeth L. KEATING, granddaughter.

SHANLY / SHANLEY

Anthony (Tony) Boos Sun Jul 24 16:49:46 2005
Researching John SHANLY, b 1807/10 - Ireland; d. 27 May 1884 -Jeffersonville, Sullivan County, NY and his wife Catharine [KELLY] SHANLY, b. 1807/10 - Ireland; d. bef 1900 - Jeffersonville SC, NY. The 1850 federal census lists this SHANLY family residing in Delhi, DC, NY. John's occupation is farming and later possibly working in a tannery as by 1860 they have moved to Callicoon, Sullivan County, New York where John is employed as a foreman in a tannery. The 1880 lists the couple residing in Delaware, Sullivan County, New York. I believe the couple to have immigrated circa 1830 from County Longford, Ireland to 1st the Town of Hunter in Greene County, NY where 7 of their 8/9 children are born between 1832 and 1847 then on to Delaware County where my ggrandfather Charles SHANLY was born in 1854 and finally settling in Sullivan County. These are my gggrandparents and any information would be much appreciated...Thank You!

BEERS

Beth (Beers) Rupert Wed Jul 20 08:53:01 2005
My Great Great Great Grandfather, Cornelius (Niel) BEERS was born in Grahamsville, Neversink, Sullivan County, NY on March 23rd, either 1809 or 1810, there is some discrepancy there as to which date is the correct one.

He was born to Silas BEERS and the former, Debby Ann OSBORN. He had a brother, Bailey BEERS, who moved to Claryville/Denning, NY area and ran an Inn there in the 1870's to late 1890's.

I am interested in first, finding out where the County Seat of Sullivan County is, and which library would be most advantageous contacting regarding genealogical/historical information.

Second, what churches might've been in existence around that time, and if they still are, in order to get some vital statistic information.

Third, is there a way to find out if Silas BEERS was in fact a shoemaker in that area, as has been noised around?

If anyone has any of the answers to the previous questions, or ideas of where I might obtain the answers, or any additional pertinent information, I would love hearing from you.
Thanks very much, and have a GREAT day.
Beth

LOCKWOOD - SMITH

Clarissa Leheny Mon May 23 15:14:11 2005
Margaret LOCKWOOD, daughter of William and Jemima (LOUNSBURY) LOCKWOOD married Hymen (Himan) SMITH. Hymen SMITH was the son of William SMITH and Abigail (LOCKWOOD) SMITH, sister of William LOCKWOOD. Margaret and Hymen were first cousins. I know he was in business with his brothers. I am at an impasse with William SMITH. Seeing that Margaret was born in Mamakating, I was wondering if the SMITHs also came from Sullivan County? In the LOCKWOOD Family History there is no mention of the parents of William SMITH. As children they must have visited both in NY and CT. Abigail and William were children of Thaddeus and Sarah LOCKWOOD.

RELYEA - GORTON

Ron Relyea Fri May 20 11:29:39 2005
I finally got a copy of my Great-Grandfather's death certificate and it lists his father as Peter RELYEA.

From the Family Bible, my Great-Great Grandfather went by the name Monroe RELYEA ( this is also the name he used in a number of census).

So ... Peter (Monroe) RELYEA was born around 1821 in Ulster County. He married Ann GORTON and had children Wainwright, Caroline Elizabeth, Washing Irving and Benjamin Franklin.

Washington Irving RELYEA was born in the Port Jervis NY area.

I believe Peter (Monroe) RELYEA is buried in the Lower Mongaup Cemetery just outside of Port Jervis.

My initial searches for Peter RELYEA have not turned up anything promising.

If anyone can provide any details, it sure would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Ron

I am searching for all information on any of the LILLIE families from Sullivan County. In the "History of Sullivan County" it states that Jeremiah LILLIE settled at the foot of Hog Island. That was in the late 1700s or early 1800s.

A daughter Lois LILLIE married a man last name CORY/ CORREY any info on her ... I mean any at all would be great. But I am looking for all information concerning the LILLIE / LILLEY / LILLY families.

Linda Gutierrez Mon May 9 16:42:02 2005
Henry GERTNER b. 1826 in Bavaria, Germany, immigrated in 1848, settling in Fremont, Sullivan County, New York. In 1853, he married Maria Anna KENZIER in Fremont Center and there they lived until 1868 with their children (Mary Anna, John, Joseph, Jacob, Cecilly, Charles and Henry are those who are known. John's obituary indicated that they had nine children in total.) when they moved to Ohio. Hoping to find marriage and birth records and any connection to the KENZIER line. Thank You!
