Benjamin Franklin WASHBURN died 2/25/1863 and is buried Hastins Cemetery, Richwood, Richland County. Would there have been a newspaper that printed his obit? If so, where might I write to request a copy? Also, where would I request a copy of his death certificate?
He died in the Civil War, 20th Regiment, Co. F, . Are there any Civil War books or histories from Richland County?
Obviously, I'm seeking any info possible on this ancestor. My ultimate goal is to connect him with the appropriate parents, so any help in that direction would be most appreciated.

I am a descendent of Raymond Sylvester PAYNE and wife Caroline "Carrie" HAYDEN PAYNE. They lived in the Richland Center and Sylvan areas of the county. Today I learned for the first time that the father of Raymond was Henry PAYNE, and that Raymond had a brother named Ed PAYNE. Raymond was born April 1861, possibly VA; died January 1947 in WI and is buried at Curtis Cemetery in Alma Center, Jackson Co. I know nothing of Henry PAYNE or the wife of Henry. I also learned that Henry lived in VA about the time of the Civil War. Raymond and Carrie PAYNE had 8 children, most being born in the Richland Co, Crawford Co. area... the children are: Emma, Belle, Dessa Arvilla SHORT (b. Sept 6, 1885), Grace, Lillian Mae, Leah, Wesley Graydon and Irvin Austin. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows of these people or has any information on the family. Please email to gschmear@cmpu.net

I am seeking further information on Martha SHOOP SHORT who was married to James SHORT of Shortville, Clark Co. WI. She lived many years in Muscoda, as I have a box full of postcards (most are postmarked between 1909 and 1920)sent to her from various relatives... all addressed to her in Muscoda. I know a great deal about the SHORT family, as my Grandmother was a SHORT, but I seek more info on Martha SHOOP SHORT. I have many pictures of the children of Andrew SHOOP and Susana LINTNER SHOOP. Each time it is noted that the person in the picture is "half-sister to Grandma". Specifically, I need information on the mother of Martha, who must have been married to Andrew SHOOP prior to his marriage to Susan LINTNER and the arrival of their 12 children. Martha was born in 1853?, at least 3 years before Andrew married Susan in 1856. Martha died December 14, 1919 in Neillsville, Clark Co.,WI. Any and all information on Martha SHOOP SHORT will be greatly appreciated. Please email to gschmear@cmpu.net

Trying to find the unknown author of a diary written during the Civil War. Traced the name to John KENNEDY. Found a KENNEDY family in the 1860's-1870's in Henrietta. Also found possible brother of John. His name is James KENNEDY. James had a daughter Harriet who married Robert Emmet McCARTHY. I am looking for a family connection to a David Henry TODD with his children David Henry Jr., Solomon TODD, and Nancy who in 1854 moved to "Town of Hooser, which later became West Lima."
It is my understanding that Richland County was just a wilderness and that the Indians were hostile. It is also my understanding that he opened a trading post. That a Joseph TODD and Don Dehart and David TODD platted the town of West Lima. That David was the second Post Master of the Town of Bloom.
It there anyone in this area that could be related and know any more facts regarding the TODD family? Principly David Henry TODD (1811-1881)?

If you have resources for Richland County and would like to volunteer to help with look-ups, please e-mail Tim Stowell
