EVERTON / EVERDON / EVERDEN

Karen Everdon Tue Nov 18 09:22:59 2003
Looking for any info about John EVERTON (and any other EVERTONs associated with Madison/Chenango Co, NY) and his family, who was one of original settlers of Nelson, New York. He possibly may have died between 1810 and 1820. His wife's name may have been Elizabeth. He supposedly came there from Vermont with his 3 sons about 1793.

He may be my great-great-great-great-grandfather if he had a son named Ira EVERTON (also spelled EVERDON / EVERDEN) who moved to Switzerland Co, Indiana with his widowed mother Elizabeth by 1820.

If his John EVERTON's wife was Elizabeth, she (and her family) is considered a pioneer settler for Switzerland County, Indiana. They 1st appeared in the 1820 census for Switzerland Co (under the mis-spelled surname of "EVIDENT"). The spelling of the name changed to EVERDON, and Ira EVERDON (who may be son of John EVERTON) filed bankruptcy in Switzerland Co, In about 1844, and then moved with his entire family about 1847-1849 to Crawford County, IN (both Switzerland Co and Crawford Co are located in far southern Indiana and both border the Ohio River).
Any info appreciated!
